DECKS

Free Standing Decks
Free standing decks are not attached to the house with any bolts or screws. As you can see on the picture to the right, deck is sitting on concrete footing. We dig the holes just like for the fence and concrete is poured to create footings. Metal bracket is inserted in the footing which after serves to attach 4x4 post to it. This method creates very solid deck and there are no screws or bolts being drilled into the house.

Attached Decks
With attached decks, ledger board is attached to the house with self tapping screws. Decks built using a ledger board have the advantage of not requiring an additional support beam and related footings running next to the house - to support the ends of the floor joists closest to the house. As you can see on the image to the right there is no third beam. This method is more economical because you save on cost of digging holes, concrete and beams.
